Step III: Computer Network Basics |
|
There are basically two types: Peer-to-Peer and Server Based configuration. Choose the one that fits your needs...
 - Peer-to-Peer Configuration
This network is easier and cheaper to setup but there can be no more than ten computers connected at one time. This does not mean that you can keep one off and then turn it on when you need it. It means only ten PC's per office. One PC stores the data from your practice management software and digital images. This PC will need more memory and hard drive space than the others. - Server Based Configuration
The server is a stand-alone PC that no one works on. It generally runs Microsoft Windows server software. Depending on the number of licenses you purchase, there can be hundreds of machines connected at any time. This network can have more functions. It does cost more to set up and configure.
